Bad day for the world of music and especially for Rock since TOM PETTY has died at the age of 66 years after suffer a heart attack. An irreparable loss since his talent has influenced and served as a guide to many later artists.
The American musician suffered a cardiac arrest this past Sunday at his home in Malibu, California (USA) having been found unconscious at his home. He was transferred in a very serious condition to the UCLA hospital in Santa Monica where he was still in a state of unconsciousness and without breathing, although the emergency services had managed to regain his pulse. He was connected to life support systems while the doctors fought for his life until a few hours ago (in the afternoon / evening of Monday Spanish time) and his heart has stopped beating. He was announced by his representative on the artist’s official Twitter account . He still had two dates pending for his next tour, specifically in New York in November.
TOM PETTY was born on October 20, 1950 in Gainesville, Florida (USA) showing since childhood incredible attitudes for music. He was a singer, composer, renowned producer known worldwide for being the leader of the TOM PETTY & THE HEARTBREAKERS group and the super band THE TRAVELING WILBURYS, a very important formation at the end of the 90s. During his long career, TOM PETTY has sold more than 80 million records, leaving his influence in several generations of musicians of the world Rock and being his name in the list of ROCK n ROLL HALL OF FAME where he entered in 2002. He was winner of three GRAMMY awards and managed to have several of his records in the prestigious “Bilboard” sales list, within the top 5 positions for 4 decades. Its last disc, “Hypnotic Eye”, obtained the number one of this list of sales.
With the Heartbreakers, maybe one of the best rock formations of all time, he released remarkable albums until the end of his days, with that road blues and that particular voice. He also returned, decades later, to his MUDCRUTCH, another of his classics, which no one expected. He never stopped composing, producing other musicians and playing; he never abandoned being on a stage. In fact TOM PETTY was on tour these days presenting his latest work in addition to celebrating his four decades of career having filled three nights in the famous “Hollywood Bowl”.
